David Arcand
Owner, Grand Prix Rider, and Certified Trainer

David Arcand began riding at the age of 8. Early on, he stood out in regional competitions and the Québec Equestrian Games. He quickly made a name for himself upon entering the Québec national circuit. On the Canadian level, at just 13 years old, Equestrian Canada named him “Junior Rider of the Year 2003”, awarding him the prestigious Gillian Wilson Trophy.

In August 2007, in Lexington, Virginia (USA), as a member of Team Québec at the North American Junior and Young Riders Championships, David won two silver medals with his horse Santos Utopia—one in the team event and another in the individual competition. Later that year, in September, he qualified for the Canadian Final of the Talent Squad Circuit, securing the title of National Vice-Champion at the Royal Horse Show.

In 2008, he once again qualified for the Canadian Talent Squad Final. That fall, during the Royal Horse Show, he claimed the title of National Champion of the Talent Squad. As a result, Equestrian Canada named him “Junior Rider of the Year” for a second time.

During the winter of 2010, David made his mark on the Winter Equestrian Festival (WEF) circuit in Wellington, Florida, winning the G&C Farm Young Riders Grand Prix and competing in four CSI events (CSI2* and CSI3*) against the world’s best riders.

In 2011, while competing in Florida’s Artisan Farm Young Rider Grand Prix Series, David secured a top 3 finish among 60 rider-horse pairs, earning a place on Team Canada for the Young Riders Nations Cup Final in Leipzig, Germany (European Youngster Cup).

In 2013, David won gold in the Québec Provincial Equestrian Tour and finished Vice-Champion in the Canadian Talent Squad Final at the Royal Winter Fair.

In January 2014, David was named to Equestrian Canada’s 2014 Short List. That same year, he dominated the circuit, winning five Grand Prix events. He also received the Aramis Trophy in the category “Most Outstanding Senior Athlete in Classic Equestrian Sports in Québec/Canada.”

Since 2012, David has been the owner of Écuries Santos, a training center specializing in show jumping.

From 2018 to 2020, he lived in Belgium and the Netherlands, where he trained and competed in events of all levels. In October 2020, he returned to Québec, eager to share his international experience with his clients.

2024 was an exceptional year for David, during which he won three Grand Prix events in Ontario and placed in the top 3 of every other competition he entered with his stallion Phil W/D Wezelse.

In early November, he secured a spot at the Royal Winter Fair for the Canadian Championship.

Throughout his career, David has trained and competed alongside some of the biggest names in equestrian sports. He worked for four years with John Pearce, a former member of the Canadian National Team, and has been training for many years with Yann Candele, an Olympic rider and four-time Canadian Champion.
